Tutorial on how to make a ringtone for your iPhone from your iTunes playlist.
Required equipment:
- iPhone (OK, so you are more than likely to have this since you are reading this FAQ)
- iTunes (OK, so you are more than likely to use this if you have an iPhone)
- sound track you wish to use as a ring tone
What to do:
1. Import the sound track into iTunes the usual way.
2. Check that your iTunes is encoding in AAC. You do this by EDIT>PREFERENCE. This will open a new dialog box.
a). Go to the “General” tab at the top if it did not open to that tab by default. Click on Import settings. This will open another dialog box.
b). At the top you will see a drop down list.
(PLEASE REMEMBER YOUR IMPORT SETTING IF YOU WANT TO SET IT BACK TO YOUR CURRENT SETTINGS)
c). Select ACC if it is not already set to that.
d). Now close & save by clicking on the OK button on both dialog boxes.
3. Now right-click on the sound track and select “Get Info”.
4. Select the tab “Options” at the top.
5. Activate both start & stop time by ticking the check boxes next to them.
6. Edit the start time and stop time so that only 30 seconds of the track will play.
(PLEASE NOTE IF THE PLAY TIME IS MORE THAN 30 SECONDS IT WILL NOT WORK. IT CAN BE ANY 30 SECOND SECTION OF THE SOUND TRACK)
7. Now click on the OK button at the bottom of the dialog box.
8. Right-click on the same sound track and select “Create ACC Version”.
9. A track with the same name will now show up in your iTunes list but the play time will only be 30 seconds.
10. Drag and drop this new sound track to your desktop or other folder on you computer.
11. Now delete the 30 second version from your iTunes library. iTunes will ask if you want to remove it from iTunes and/or filing systems - remove from both.
12. Now you have a file
What-ever.m4a we want to rename it to What-ever.m4r you will see the icon
change and say the word ring.
13. Now that the file
has been removed from both the iTunes library and filing system we are going to re-import the 30 second sound track in a particular way. Drag and drop the 30 second sound track back into the ringtone library in iTunes.
That is it, we have a ring tone. Now all you need to do is sync your iPhone to you iTunes.
